Latest Cadillac DeVille Concours Frequently Asked Questions:
i have wanted to put a newer engine in my cadillac but wasn't sure which year to choose.
Answer:yes, but you need all the computer and wire harnesses that go with it too. But why waste that motor on a huge brick? drop it into an S-10 with 22"s on it! Much faster!
Im trying to recharge the r-134a refrigerant in my caddy. You have to have the air compressor running to recharge the system. When the r-134a is low, the air compressor has a safety switch that switches off so that you don't burn up the compressor. The haynes manual i have says you have to find the low pressure cycling switch and attach a jumper wire to start the compressor. I need to know where that switch is. Thanx Geniuses!
Answer:The cycling switch is on the compressor itself. Remove the wire harness attached to the compressor and jump between two of the post. You will have to try the different ones to see which two need to be jumped. You will know you have it when the compressor kicks in.
It has a 4.6L engine and 8 cylinders. I'd also like to know exactly how many cylinders it shuts down. Tnx in advance!
Answer:The 1981 cadillacs were the ones with the 8-6-4 engines. A 98 did not have anything like that. They did have a system that would shut down cylinders but that was for an emergency 'limp' mode. Starting around 05 several companies started offering the cylinder deactivation. I believe chevy had a couple models with that option and dodge did it with some of their hemi's.
