i want to no after putting in a new battery and a new autinator, do the computer box have to be reset if the car is not running right draggs. if so how to reset it
Answer:Depends what year the car is and what motor is has. 1994 and lower luminas with the 3.1L code T motor have to have their PCM's relearned as this is a speed density algorithm inside the computer. To do this, you have to disconnect the power from the PCM for about ten seconds. Then reconnect the power. Now turn the ignition on but don't try to start the motor. After about five seconds, attempt to start the motor, it might stall. Continue to do so until the motor starts and runs by itself. DO NOT help the motor run by giving any throttle and that is very important!!! Now that the motor is running, let it run till operating temp is reached. You have now relearned the PCM and are free to continue on. Good luck.

I have a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina LS with minor hail damage, 179,686 Odometer Miles, Dent in the Driver Side Fender, Cracked Windshield. I replaced the engine when I bought it and got new spark plugs, short ram air filter, and I also bought a Dual iPlug Radio and red LED underbody lights, it runs smoothly as new. What would this thing be worth? Would it be worth trading for a running Suburban with very bad interior?
Answer:Your car is worth about $500, give or take. However, if it runs really well, why get rid of it at all? Who knows what kind of mess you'd be getting with a Suburban? They aren't the most reliable vehicles out there, and they get atrocious gas mileage. Your car might be a junker, but it's a junker you know the story behind. They are also much cheaper to maintain. Tires, oil changes, and parts are significantly cheaper for your Lumina.
I have a '96 Chevrolet Lumina and I've always wondered if I could turn it into a tuner car. Sort of like a Japanese Tuner car.
Answer:you almost had the categories right. you got the first 3 muscle: raw awesome hp, fast not quick tuner: little light, quick not fast exotic: just plain sexy, great handling fun usually fast and quick commuter cars: boring plain Jane cars that really don't go fast or quick. ----This is where the Lumina fits in. sorry, you could always stick a great big wing and loud exhaust on it but really who are you fooling? Just remember a Wing on a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR JUST LOOKS GOOFY!!!
I Need to know where the starter is located on a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. It has a 3.1 Engine. The Starter needs replacing.
Answer:While I do not specifically know, I can tell you how to find it. First of all, it is going to be located at the bell housing for the transmission. Look at the end of the engine for reference sake, where all of the belts are at, and the generator. Now look at the other end of the engine, this is where the transmission is going to be connected, and under the engine, at that end, is where the starter is at. Follow the large red wire from the battery that goes down to that end of the engine, this will lead you to the starter. There are only 2 really large red wires, one goes to the generator, the other is going to be the starter wire. Any wire that goes to the firewall is not what you need to follow for this problem.
