Latest Chevrolet Volt Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Is there any way in purchasing a chevrolet volt working concept model?

Answer:Not for sale yet This is only a concept car. Even if you could buy it, there are no replacement parts or mechanics that can work on it. With no replacement parts, there could be no warranty. I hope this car doesn't go the way of the Impact concept did about 15 years ago. I believe this car will be built. It will be a very good car if used for its intended purpose, short commuter trips.

  • Will the Chevrolet Volt be a failure or a success?
I think it will be a failure, because it is way too expensive. $40,000. For $27,000 you can buy a Prius.
Answer:It depends how you define failure or success. GM's not counting on this to be a high volume seller as it's first generation technology for a whole new type of propulsion system that no one is offering. It's a point of departure for the auto industry as a whole. It's the kind of car I expect to be driving in the future. People say it will fail because it only goes 40 miles on electricity. But would you rather have a Tesla that can go 250 miles only and then have to be recharged, or would you rather have a Volt that will go 40 miles on pure electric power and then another 300 miles on electric power via a generator? With the Tesla if I were to go on vacation, I'd have to stop at a hotel every 250 miles and wait 6 hours for it to charge. While with the Volt, I could continue to drive and just charge it when I get to my hotel. I don't want an electric only car because I'll always be afraid of running out of electricity. And you can't just call up AAA and ask for a jump start with an electric vehicle.lol Sure for $27,000 you can buy a Prius. But if you look at the Volt, the interior and and tech under the hood are definitely worth way more than that. And it looks way better than the Prius. Not to mention, for many people who live and work in the same city they will be able to drive around town during the week and use ZERO drops of gasoline. As for people who keep bringing up the past (EV1), how many people were willing to spend $100,000 on a compact car that was about as nice on the inside as the base Cavalier of the time, that only went 70+ miles on a single charge and then had to be charged overnight? I know I wouldn't. And even if I were a millionaire at the time I wouldn't want one. And just remember, GM was not the only manufacturer to have an EV program at the time, and they weren't the only manufacturer that discontinued their EV program at the time. Everyone cancelled their EV programs. Volt may not make money with its first generation, but you can bet that it will with the successive generations.

  • How does the chevrolet volt compared to other petroleum based vehicles?
    *title*
Answer:Most cars have a fuel-burning engine hooked up to directly drive the wheels. The Chevrolet Volt is supposed to be a series hybrid, where the fuel-burning engine is solely used as a generator to provide electricity to the electric motors. Only the electric motors are directly hooked up to drive the wheels. Think of it more as a 40mile electric vehicle with an on-board charger.

  • Would you consider getting an electric environmentally friendly car like a Chevrolet Volt?

Answer:Why buy when you could convert your car to be an electric environementally friendly car. Some guides are easy to follow while other may flood with you with technical jargon. The bottom line in electric car conversion is that you are already able to help the environment without the expensive price tag that comes along with factory made electric cars.
