Latest Mercedes-Benz CLS Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How reliable is a Mercedes Benz CLS 500? Really?
I've been driving a 2000 Lexus GS for a good ten years, saved up, and decided to buy this baby. My question is, how reliable is it, from your experiences? I've been looking at dozens of website/consumer reviews, and I've heard some horror stories about expensive transmission costs, repairs, etc, BUT there have also been a lot of amazing reviews about this car. Sorta confused on what to believe..
Answer:In my opinion, any Mercedes Benz should be reliable. In fact, many Mercedes Benz vehicles have one many prizes in Europe for their reliability, safety, customer support etc. The CLS 500 has a very high price tag (I believe it starts around AU$167000). Hence, this car would be very reliable with high performance (come on it's a 5L V8!), very high safety standards (MB invented PRO & PRE SAFE and were the first car manufacturers to use seatbelts), and 2-3 years ahead in terms of technology (Split-view, 6 stack DVD, CD, SAT NAV, TV reception, AUX-IN, 10GB HDD, PCMCIA slot etc.). I think the problem is regarding the fuel consumption. MB has very poor MPG, (except fpr S400 hybrid).

  • why is the mercedes-benz cls class so cheap?
Is there any reason why the price dropped so much. They are supposed to be around 50,000 new and i just saw a 2006 model for 18,000. There was nothing wrong with it clean title and only 34,000 miles.
Answer:Ermin, he's talking about the CLS class not the C class. The CLS class is roughly the same size as an E class and is touted as their "four door coupe". Ever hear the saying, "It's the economy stupid"? Well the general depression in the auto industry is forcing the prices of new vehicles down and consequently forcing the prices of used vehicles down even further. Especially luxury models. The base price on the S600 sedan is around $148,000 new, and you can find them all day long, a year or so old for less than $80,000 or right around that number. Less than 30K on the odometers too.

  • Is the Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 w/ AMG being sold outside CA compliant with the 50-State Emission Standards.?
I might buy a car being sold to me from Salt Lake City, Utah. I need to know if this car is compliant with the 50-State Emissions Standards and can be registered here in California? The car is 2007 or 2008.
Answer:Yes, all gasoline Mercedes products are compliant, especially one from 2007 or 2008. The question was with the Bluetec diesel which was not compliant until the 2009 model year. Congratulations, great choice of car.
