I recently changed my battery and alternator in my 1999 mercury sable, now none of the gauges will work and it wont start. It started a couple of times with high reving and no rpms gauge, no she wont start at all!
Answer:I suspect it cranks over, but it won't start. The problem could be a dirty throttle air bypass valve. This is a computerized choke that gets carbon built up and can restict air flow causing the engine to run rich. This part can be removed, cleaned with a throttle-body cleaner that is O2 sensor safe (about 10 bucks), and reinstalled with a new base gasket (about 3 bucks). This takes about an hour to do and will increase starting, idling, and economy. This TABV or idle air control valve is located on the intake manifold, is about 3 inches in length, about an inch in diameter, is metal and black plastic with an electrical plug-in on the plactic end, and has two 10mm bolts that hold it in place. I have a 1989 Mercury Sable and when it goes over 50 miles per hour it seem like there is no gas getting to the engine i would have the pedal to the floor but the car does not go then when it drops to under 45 miles per hour it goes. Could it possibly be the fuel pressure regulator. I did have a new fuel pump installed and the pump is running.

I have a 2001 Mercury Sable with a V6 Vulcan engine. I want to get better acceleration and maybe some more horse power without spending a lot of money. I know its a Sable and theres probably not much you can do to it, but you've got to work with what you've got. What performance upgrades can i do that will get me the most acceleration?

I bought a Mercury Sable. Now I think it's a ford taurus. I bet I could buy parts for my sable from taurus. Mercury is Ford. I should have paid more attention. I bet my Transmission will start screwing up soon. I need to get out more.
Answer:Yes, the Mercury Sable is the same basic car as the Ford Taurus. Just some trim and styling differences. This is not necessarily a bad thing. My wife's 2000 Taurus has over 100K miles on it, and is still going strong and geting 28 MPG on the highway!
