Answer:you have the wires wrong that hook up to the starter you want to check them first. Make sure the purple wire goes to where it is supposed to that one is the ignition wire and then make sure the bat wire is going where it is sop posed to those two are the most critical
i have a 1991 oldsmobile cutlass supreme sl, the engine size is a 3.1 and the year is 1991. the problem all started while i was driving my car. it shut off on me and i tried starting it back on and it would start. i opened my hood and checked my oil, anti-freeze, and my transmition fluid everything looked ok. i check the pressure of the fuel pump and it was squirting out normal. after a few times of trying to start the car it killed my battery.. i got a buddy of mines to JUMP IT!. and tried to start but nothing.. i took the cap of the fuel pump relay to check the fuses and i noticed the #20 was blowned. the big fuse looked ok. i changed the #20 and replaced it with a #20 and everytime i hit the ignition switch it would blow it the fuse. after a couple of boxes of fuses i check once again the pressure for the fuel pump and their was no pressure, no gas squirting out at all... i got back in the car close all my windows and try listening to the fuel pump and it did not make any noise or turned on. i check the #20 fuse in the fuel pump relay and it was blowned. i check the connections to the starter and noticed the wires where loose a little bit and where touching.. so i tightened them up and put a new fuse in the pump relay and nothing. what can i do.. thank you.. Answer:I own a shop, and what I would do (if I were you) is; call a reputable shop, and have them take it in, and fix it. Your problem sounds like something has stopped working. If it turns over just fine, then the starter is probably just fine. Some of the things that could be the problem is; fuel filter plugged up, fuel pump is no good, fuel pressure regulator is not working, the ignition system has failed, or the computer has seen its better days. I would think this problem is beyond the scope of you being able to get it running on your own, due in part to the tests that will have to be ran in order to pinpoint the culprit. You could even have a timing belt/chain broke, but a qualified mechanic should be able to give you an answer pretty quick as to whats going on. Part 2: I wasn't being sarcastic, I was just being realistic. If you are not mechanically inclined (which you don't seem to be) It's best to leave it to someone who can get to the heart of the matter. How someone (below) can get votes for using my answer is beyond me. Everything suggested is a direct copy of what I had suggested, go figure? Anyway, if you think the starter has something to do with it, even though the starter turns fine, doesn't exactly display mechanical aptitude. With this in view, I would think you could do more harm than good by trying to fix the problem. Rule is; If you don't know anything about it, leave it alone or injury is not far behind. Hi, I have a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL Coupe. The hood release cable has slipped out of where it was attached to the latch (at the front end of the car) and now the hood wont open. I need to find a way that I can manually open the hood without the cable. Thanks, -Morgan Ive already got under it but my hands are too big to fit into the small area where the latch is.
Answer:Reach up between grill and radiator and trip the latch.May need pliers or screw driver but is doable. Long needle nose pliers (maybe).Only other way I've solved this problem is pull radiator but that can be a major hassle and a lot of work. There is a hole that cable connects to latch so may be able to hook wire coat hanger (take it apart and stretch it) in to that hole and pull.Hope these suggestions work so you don't have to pull radiator.
