Recently my old reliable Olds 1984 Cutlass began revving too high. The accelerator pedal is not stuck and Gumout does not work. How do I adjust the choke. As may be obvious, I am not experienced with working on automobiles.
Answer:The choke adjustments are too complicated for a DIY'er. It requires a special gauge and a procedure for setting Fast idle, choke pull-off and other adjustments. The 84 Cutlass Supreme has an Idle Speed Control motor. The gear assembly in the ISC motor may be bad. There is also a procedure for replacement and adjustment on that because the computer controls it and uses other inputs to control idle. That carburetor should be repaired by an experienced carburetor expert to make it run correctly. The vehicle also needs the EFE heater grid under the carburetor on the V6 models. Gumout in the wrong places can cause more problems than it cures.
