My car's master key for my Passat just suddenly stopped operating today, and I don't believe that the batteries are dead. I read in my car manual how to reprogram or "restart" the key, but I couldn't get it to work. Does anybody know how to do this? Or is there possibly something else wrong with the key? It's kind of important that I get it fixed because I only have one master key to get into my car. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Answer:Your battery is more than likely dead. To get the battery out, flip the key blade out, then you will see a light that splits the key fob in half, just under the VW emblem. Pull it apart, as in the key blad peice away from key ring. Then on the side that the key ring is attached to, it opens like a clam shell, so just pull apart where the key blade would rest in, so if the fob is laying down pull the top off. There is a battery in there, I can't remember what size the battery is, i know I get them at Target or any place that sells flat batteries, most jewelry stores dont have them. I want to say it is a CR2032 but i could be mistaken. Put back together and your key should work, if it isnt the battery you gotta take it to the dealership, and dont be suprised if they ask for a minimum of $70 if they are SUPER nice. I would like most likely the darkest allowed in FL and a lifetime warranty. Also, does anyone know any good, reliable tinting places in Cape Coral, FL or Ft. Myers, FL? Also, it doesn't take very long for a tint job, right?

Please back up your answer with facts. I am stressed about this decision! Well I did some more research on both vehicles and the VW has some serious issue, bad fuel economy plus it takes high octane gas. That one is now out. If the 05 Accords are bad are the 06's better? I posted another question asking for opinions on some other vehicles too. Thanks fo ryour answers! The VW was SWEET to drive but I don't think it is very practical for our situation.
Answer:in my opinion the passat looks much better, but if reliablity is youre main goal, then dont even consider it. The accord continues to win awards for the highest quality for the money. They own reliability in america. Their warranty program on the other hand doesnt do justice to their reliability. Maybe they think that because they have built the reputation as the most reliable brand in america, they dont need to offer a long warranty. its shorter then most american companies. Another issue with honda, is that they hold the value the longest. buying a used car, youre going to be out more money then would be expected. If youre looking for a very well designed car, go with the passat, if youre looking for a reliable daily driver, get the accord.
Just bought an 02 Passat. I have been reading they aren't that reliable and my bank lady told me the warranty purchase is expensive and she suspected defects. Is this just typical German maintenance or should I dump this car?
Answer:i had used vw passat for over 20years (1987-2008)and i found it so reliable and deserved to be under typica german maker.
