Latest Volvo V70 Frequently Asked Questions:
I had a mechanic (Volvo specialist) tell me I need a 100,000 mile tune-up (runs a few thousand dollars) on my 99 V70 Cross Country. It includes replacing timing belts and a few other things. Is this tune-up really necessary?
Answer:lets put it this way. How important is your engine? and how long do you want to keep it? I am pretty sure you want to keep it, so I would recommend that you go to another mechanic (or two) and get quotes from them, but replacing the timing belt would probably be your biggest concern if one of those breaks then you will be looking at about 3-4 grand for an engine replacement.

I've got a 98 volvo v70 that is emitting white smoke/mist from the heater and A/C vents...So, I need to replace the heater core. Money is tight, so I'm not looking to drop a ton of money in parts/labor, so i was wondering if anyone knew of a quick fix (like StopLeak or something) that would solve the problem...at least until i can afford to have the thing fixed permanently.
Answer:The only leak stop chemical I would use is BarsLeaks. It's very effective, so much so in fact that it may clog the core but the leak will be fixed. I've been using this stuff for years and always been satisfied.
I have a volvo v70 and the key/central locking is no longer opening the boot & back doors and i need to get in to the boot so is there a way of opening it manually.

I bought an additional keyless remote unit for 98 Volvo V70, and looking for the instruction to program it by myself. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer:REPROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS Both transmitter key codes are preprogrammed in the receiver module when the car is supplied, but can be reprogrammed if necessary, e.g. if a new transmitter is used. When reprogramming the receiver, it is important to enter each unique key code. The receiver's memory can hold up to three transmitter codes. Before starting reprogramming, check that the remote control transmitter concerned uses the same frequency as the receiver. The receiver module is marked with a letter as shown in the illustration. The transmitter has a P/N engraved on the underside. Note: New frequencies may be introduced later. Receiver module marking Transmitter P/N A (9148647) 9148646 C (9128710) 9128709 H (9128928) 9128927 The procedure for reprogramming the receiver module is as follows: Turn the ignition key to position I or II five times in 10 seconds and leave the ignition on after the fifth time. Within 30 seconds, press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the transmitter once. All transmitters must be reprogrammed within 30 seconds. Switch ignition off. Check that each transmitter is working. Note: If neither the LOCK or UNLOCK button is pressed within 30 seconds, no reprogramming will take place and the receiver module will retain the previous key codes. It is not easy, good luck! may take a few tries!!!!!
